Dominoes fall in sequence. Small wins mount. Momentum is formed one decision at a time. For almost thirty years the consistent habit of Bible reading and prayer has been a make-or-break for me. If I start my days in devotion to God, the rest of the day stands a better chance of falling in line. God wants to be first. He’s the keystone habit, in modern bestseller language. You might even say Jesus is the cornerstone.
I’d never make the oversimplified argument that reading the Bible is easy. Nothing of consequence is. But, I’ll never fall victim to the argument that God preserved a living, active Word for us for thousands of years, filled you with his Holy Spirit, and made it impossible for you to grasp.
Start small, or start big, but just start with me today! Our Arrowhead family of churches has a resource we call the Rhythms Journal. You can read the whole Bible in a year or at your own pace. It’s all spelled out in there. We have hard copies and it’s also online here. If you don’t want to use the whole book but want the reading plan in a one-page format, reply by email or leave a comment.
All the other habits bow to this one for a Christian. Happy 2025!
